Community top-level domains, alongside the internet you already use.

GOpenCDR, the Gelhaus Open Community Domain Registry, is an alternative DNS namespace run to infrastructure grade: top-level domains that communities run, which any resolver can add beside the ICANN root, signed with DNSSEC and recorded in a public transparency log. We are building it now, with a small group of invited testers.

What it will be

• Top-level domains for communities

  A community proposes a top-level domain of its own. The registry checks the string, approves it, and signs and publishes its zone, and the community decides who registers names in it.

• The ICANN root always wins

  GOpenCDR never answers for a name that exists in the IANA root zone. A string delegated there can never become a GOpenCDR top-level domain, and a name that appears there later is withdrawn everywhere and blocked for good.

• Checked, not just trusted

  Every zone is signed with DNSSEC, and every change to the root is written to a public transparency log that anyone can verify.

• Nothing changes unless you opt in

  Resolvers and mirrors choose to add GOpenCDR. Anyone who does not keeps the internet exactly as it is.

Not open source yet

GOpenCDR's code is proprietary for now, with all rights reserved by Gelhaus Solutions. We intend to open it once it is ready for outside contributions, which means licence headers, an audit of third-party licences, a contribution policy and a clean history.

Until then the source is not public, and nothing on this site grants a licence to it.
